Winter ’23-’24 found me pouring over botanical textbooks, taxonomy field guides, and botanical wall charts. My long time interest in botany became the inspiration for my August Shift show, Instructions for Looking at a Flower. As much as I revered the amazing illustrators and botanical painters I was referencing, I took license in broadly interpreting botanical form and function in this collection of paintings
